72nd Annual Conference

Canberra

The WDA 2024 conference will be hosted on Ngunnawal Country, Australia, in Australia’s capital city – Canberra. The name Canberra is in Ngunnawal language. Nestled at the foot of the Brindabella mountains, this inland city of 400,000 is surrounded by typical south-eastern Australian woodlands and rural landscapes. The designed city is home to many of Australia’s modern national cultural sites, including our national parliament.

Wildlife is common in Canberra and its surrounds. You can expect to see sulphur-crested cockatoos, eastern grey kangaroos, kookaburras and might see emus, koalas, echidnas and even platypuses.

December is summer in Australia and Canberra has a warm dry summer climate. Typical daytime temperatures range between 12°C and 28°C. UV exposure is extremely high in December in south-eastern Australia.

Canberra is located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Australia’s smallest and only landlocked state or territory (being surrounded by the state of New South Wales).

Getting There

and Around

Canberra has an international airport that is serviced by some direct international flights and frequent domestic connections. Train and bus routes run between Canberra and Sydney and the city has an urban bus and light rail system as well as an excellent network of bike trails and footpaths. Car hire is available from Canberra airport, and highways connect the city with Sydney (>3hrs), Melbourne (>7hrs) and other regional hubs. Canberra is 1.5hr drive from the south coast of NSW.
